Summer Read: Week #4

Read this:

Chapter #4 (Journey Through the Wall)

Discuss or reflect on this:

Grab a journal, some friends, or your spouse and spend a few minutes reflecting on the reading from this week. Use these reflections questions to help you see what the Lord is teaching you and how He might be calling you to go deeper in this particular area.

  • What stood out to you or challenged you most from the reading this week?

  • In your own words, how would you describe the concept of “The Wall”?

    • Describe a time when you feel like you’ve had to face “The Wall” in your life?  What were the surrounding circumstances?  What feelings did it elicit?  How did you process it?

What are the dangers if we choose to try and go around or flee in the opposite direction of “The Wall”?

  • Look at the image of the stages of faith (pg.99). What stage best describes where you’re at right now? What “works” for spiritual growth and what have you left behind at a previous or different stage?

  • Sometime in the next couple weeks…grab coffee with a friend, your spouse, or a family member and talk about how to process The Wall.

    • How do we, as followers of Jesus, walk alongside someone who feels like they’ve hit the wall, can’t feel or hear God, feel low, feel stuck, and generally are disappointed in their faith?

Pray through this:

As you go throughout your week, spend some time praying through what the Lord is teaching you. Grab a sticky note or your journal and jot down these prayer points and re-visit them throughout the week.

  • Begin by taking 2 minutes to be silent before the Lord.  Embrace the difficulty of being completely silent and learn to listen to the Lord before speaking to Him.

  • Praise God for His mercy and grace towards us, and thank Him for the relationship that we are allowed to have with Him as His sons and daughters.

  • Ask God for help to get through seasons when you feel most distant from Him, and ask that He would help us come to Him even when it feels as though He is miles away.

  • If you are currently in a season where you are facing “The Wall” - be specific in your prayer to God.  He desires to enter into this season with you - pray in a way that invites the Lord into your situation.

  • Ask God to help transform the spiritual disciplines from a “have to” to a “want to” mindset.
