Luke 24:36-53
It’s been said that last words are lasting words. Here in Luke 24, after Jesus has been resurrected from the dead, he gives his disciples a parting word. And it’s this parting word, empowered by the Holy Spirit, that will ignite the greatest movement the world has ever seen.
Luke 22:1-23
Jesus became sin so that we could be forgiven of our sin. The prophet Isaiah spoke of Jesus’ horrific death hundreds of years before Christ’s crucifixion. In Isaiah 53:5, “But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.”
Luke 19:1-10
The gospel changes us and maybe nowhere is that more evident in the life of a follower of Jesus than in his/her wallet. Gospel generosity is produced when we understand Jesus’ lavish generosity towards us. This week we see the story of Zaccheaus and how his encounter with Jesus radically changed his life… and in particular his spending habits.
Luke 18:9-17
C.S. Lewis famously said, "Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less." Pride is one of the most ubiquitous sins and one of the most devastating. Jesus addresses the issue of pride head on in our text for this week and helps us understand how to embrace humility.
Luke 15:11-32
One of the most famous stories that Jesus ever told was the Prodigal Son. Often, though, we miss that there are two sons in the story. This week we’ll see how the gospel is for both the rebellious younger brothers AND religious older brothers.
Luke 12:22-34
Recent statistics indicate that anxiety is at an all time high and Gen Z is now the most stressed out generation on record. Jesus speaks directly to the issue of anxiety and helps us to see that as we focus more on His Kingdom and less on ours we can find freedom from our daily angst.
Luke 11:1-13
God loves us so much that He teaches us how to talk to Him. Prayer in its most basic sense is us talking to God and acknowledging our love, desire, & need for Him. This week we unpack the Lord’s Prayer and discover how Jesus modelled prayer for us.
Luke 10:1-12
God's desire is to save many and He wants to use us to bring them the good news to the lost. The problem is not that God doesn't want to save people who are far from Him... the problem is that we don't want to go and tell them of the good news of Jesus. We have been sent... the question is will we go.
Luke 9:21-43
Whether we’re on the mountaintop or deep in the mess of life we need Jesus. In fact, the only prerequisite for following Jesus is need. We have nothing to bring and nothing to offer except for our need to be rescued from our sins and restored in our relationship with God.
Luke 6:20-36
We live in a world that prioritizes power, wealth, and prestige. The kingdom of God, however, is counterintuitive. Jesus came preaching about a different kind of kingdom that seeks not the promotion of self but the glorification of God the Father through humility, sacrifice, and serving others.
Luke 5:12-32
Last week we saw Jesus resisting sin in the wilderness. As Jesus' ministry begins, he doesn’t merely resist sin, he forgives sin. Jesus did not come to make our life better but to make it new and he does so primarily through the forgiveness of sins.
Luke 4:1-15
Port City’s Grand Opening. This week we look at the temptation of Jesus right before he begins his formal ministry. Through Luke 4 we discover how Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, did in the wilderness what Adam could not do in the Garden.
