Serving at Port City

At Port City we believe the primary reason we practise radical servanthood is because we worship a God that first came to serve us (Mark 10:45). We also believe that the church body is made up of various people all with unique gifts and abilities given by God to be used for Him and His glory (1 Corinthians 12). Lastly, we believe that the church is the primary way that God is calling people to Himself! It’s His plan-A for people to come into a saving knowledge and relationship with Him. So we as Christ-followers are called to serve the church and others so that our mission of “Helping people encounter Jesus and follow His way” is fulfilled for God’s glory and the salvation of many!

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”
—1 Peter 4:10-11

There are many ways to SERVE and get involved at Port City, but the primary way is by joining one of our Sunday SERVE teams. These are the various teams of dedicated Port City servants that make Sundays happen with joy and excellence each week.

SERVE Teams

  • At Port City we greatly value authenticity. We want people to feel welcome and accepted in a truly authentic way. Our Hospitality SERVE team works hard to welcome and answer questions to all newcomers and regular Port City attendees each Sunday. This team is made up of four sub-teams to serve those entering the doors of a Sunday gathering. Being part of our hospitality team means you get to serve in a multitude of ways, rotating on the following sub-teams.

    • Greeting

    • Connect Table

    • Coffee

    • Usher

    • Parking

*Our expectation is that you serve a min of two Sundays per month. However we also work hard to accommodate your work / life schedule as needed. We also use an online tool called “Planning Center” to make scheduling and communication slick and easy.

*All hospitality team members serve from approximately 9:00am - 12:00pm

  • We believe that the greatest life lived is a life lived for Jesus! That is why the mission of Port City Kids is to help children encounter Jesus and follow His way. From the infant who joins us in the nursery all the way up to grade three, we are committed to helping children grow each Sunday in a safe and fun environment. We then seek to partner and assist parents as they lay a foundation of faith for the kids throughout the rest of the week.

If you have a passion for teaching or assisting children and would like to know more about serving on our Sunday Kids SERVE Team please visit our Kids page for more information and how to get involved.

*All Kids team members are required to complete a successful criminal record check before serving on this team - if you are interested in becoming a member of Port City please sign up for an upcoming “Basics” class.

  • Worship is much more than just music on a Sunday, but it certainly isn’t less! We believe that one of the primary reasons we gather on Sundays is to worship Jesus in spirit and in truth. Our music team leads the congregation into authentic worship each Sunday through song. We are always looking to grow and expand our music team with various abilities and instruments.

The prayer team plays a very important role as they pray with others in need at the front and provide care and love through prayer ministry. We also have two people serving the communion elements (bread and juice) from the front as people come forward. Both of these roles are reserved for covenant members of the church.

*The role of prayer team member or communion server are reserved for covenant members of Port City Church - if you are interested in becoming a member of Port City please sign up for an upcoming “Basics” class.
