How to Pray for Hope Alight
The other day, after shoveling a light layer of snow from the driveway, I walked back into the house and was greeted by the smell of the fireplace and the soft glow of Christmas lights. Something about that moment—the warmth, the quiet (well as quiet as it gets with 5 kiddos), the scent of wood burning—pulled me deeper into the Christmas spirit. It reminded me how this season has a way of stirring our hearts toward true hope, wonder, and togetherness. As those feelings settled in, I found myself thinking specifically about Hope Alight and the unique opportunity we have as a church to share that same warmth and hope with our community.
We believe this season offers a beautiful chance for new people to come through our doors; friends who’ve never heard the gospel might encounter the love of Christ; hurting souls may be reminded they are not alone. Our talented band and crew will lead worship, while volunteers will give generously of their time and energy. But it’s all for naught if we do not seek the Lord in prayer. So below are a few ways that we can be in prayer for Hope Alight this week.
Pray for new people — that they find welcome and belonging.
“Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.”
—Romans 15:7Lord, draw new people to Hope Alight and allow them to experience genuine hope and connection as they step into our church community.
Pray for unbelievers — that the hope of Jesus reaches their hearts.
“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
—Luke 19:10God, open hearts to hear the message of Jesus through music, story, and community. May this season spark faith in those who have not yet encountered your grace and mercy.
Pray for the hurting — that they encounter comfort and renewed hope.
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
—Psalm 34:18Father, for anyone carrying grief, disappointment, or loneliness, may this event remind them that you see them and offer real hope.
Pray for the band, crew, and technical team — for strength and unity.
“The Lord is my strength and my shield.”
—Psalm 28:7Give endurance, joy, and protection (especially from sickness) to everyone leading and serving on stage and behind the scenes. Sustain them through the final rehearsals and every show.
Pray in thanksgiving for our volunteers — for their willingness and servant hearts.
“Serve one another humbly in love.”
—Galatians 5:13We thank you, God, for every volunteer who has stepped forward. Bless them with joy, energy, and a deep sense of purpose as they serve.
May Hope Alight be filled with God’s presence, his hope, and his invitation for all who attend.
