Meet Mike

Current Church Planting Resident

My name is Mike Esa, and I'm originally from Abuja, Nigeria. I'm blessed to be married to my amazing wife, Blessing, and together we are raising our two wonderful children, David and Sophia.

Our journey to Halifax is a testament to God's divine guidance. My wife, Blessing, felt a persistent calling to Canada, a path I initially resisted. Following extensive prayer and counsel, we yielded to this direction.

Through God’s providence, a connection with Chad MacDonald was established, culminating in our family's arrival in Halifax on February 15, 2024, after three years of preparation.

Having been ordained as a pastor in Nigeria in 2011, and serving in ministry since, I recognize the importance of continued training and instruction, especially in a new culture and context. To that end, I am deeply engaged in focused training.

Currently, I serve as a Church Planting Apprentice at Port City Church in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I've recently begun the Send Network (NAMB) pre-assessment process—a significant step in my commitment to church planting. I'm receiving hands-on training through daily coaching and instruction from the elders at Port City, while also participating in the Send Network training cohort for church planters in Atlantic Canada.
